Conform or not conform, that is the question.
With everyone advocating the use of web standards nowadays I decided to take a look at some of the top visited sites according to Netcraft and see what results were given when passing it through the W3C's validator.
First on the list was of course google.com the results were suprising. On their simple homepage there were numerous errors. To start with there was no doctype and then there were a futher 52 errors. On such a simple page I found this quite surprising.
Second was yahoo.com this had similar results to google no doctype and then a further 330 errors.
Now this is where the fun began third on the list was microsoft.com. I was expecting similar results to the first two, but to my suprise the home page of microsoft is Valid HTML 4.0 Transitional.
In all, the only site listed that conformed to any web standard was microsoft.com, what a shock!
I don't know probably too many designers too - much content - nobody really looks at the code underneat as long as it works
